Define the competitive cores
Paul George: 2010–11 through 2016–17. Oladipo/Sabonis: 2017–18 through 2021–22. Haliburton: 2022–23 through completed 2025–26.
Report 003 is not an executive ranking. It follows three competitive Pacers cores and the value chain connecting them. The private workbook contains 28 tabs; the public method, scoring rules, source audit and robustness results are here.

Paul George: 2010–11 through 2016–17. Oladipo/Sabonis: 2017–18 through 2021–22. Haliburton: 2022–23 through completed 2025–26.
Granger→George internally, George→Oladipo/Sabonis, Oladipo→LeVert/Sabonis-led phase, Sabonis→Haliburton.
Drafting, trades, coaching and elite talent are measured separately from regular-season and postseason results.
George, Oladipo and Haliburton injury seasons remain in results. Resilience grades the response, not the fact that an injury happened.
Named philosophies, leave-one-out tests and 300,000 random-weight models show when another core can reasonably win.
Eight NBA questions
Win percentage and frequency of winning seasons.
Series wins, deepest round and series-win conversion per playoff berth.
How well Indiana created, preserved and converted lead-star value.
Pacers-specific mature class value; young classes are shrunk or withheld instead of prematurely crowned.
Trades, signings, extensions, exits and retained flexibility.
Selection quality, roster fit, adaptability and governance.
Honor density, elite overlap, playoff depth and retention through the core peak.
Preparedness, replacement quality, tactical adjustment and result preservation during major shocks.
The next star was already on the roster before the old one disappeared.
A forced exit still produced two Pacers All-Stars.
An established All-Star became a younger lead creator and Finals engine.
Evidence integrity
Primary source families: NBA.com/Pacers official announcements, Basketball Reference season records, official award releases and rights-reviewed Wikimedia Commons photography. Judgment-coded grades remain labeled as judgment.
Can the formula be blamed?
The counterargument is real. Paul George wins the regular-season-durability and resilience-heavy philosophies, and wins the leave-one-out test when postseason achievement is removed. This is a qualified verdict, not a landslide.
What the model cannot claim
Its eventual exit/succession event is unobserved and receives no penalty.
They remain visible but are excluded from mature-class averages; the 2022 class is the only mature Haliburton-era class at this cutoff.
Its cost is recorded, including the 2026 No. 5 pick, but five Pacers games are not enough to final-grade the return.
Indiana had bad seasons. The supported claim is that it repeatedly carried existing value into the next core instead of rebuilding from zero for years.
Why isn't the workbook public? The native 28-tab research database remains private. Public transparency comes from the evidence inventory, formulas, source policy, exclusions, limitations and sensitivity work.
